Sara Kane Retaliation Chain
October 6–7, 2025 — Greystar Regional Manager
The 94-Minute Retaliation: At 3:01 PM on October 6, 2025, Justin Horn emailed Greystar reporting staff harassment and antisemitic scapegoating by building porters. At 4:35 PM — exactly 94 minutes later — Regional Manager Sara Kane issued a formal "Resident Conduct" warning letter accusing Horn of inappropriate behavior. The warning cited no specific rule violation and relied on unverified reports from the same staff members Horn had just reported. Kane backpedaled the next day, recharacterizing the warning as "not intended as a disciplinary action" and offering a hotel room for the broken AC she had ignored in her first letter.

Hey Ryan,
Sadly another incident occured about 15 minutes ago with Pam gossiping to other residents about me. It's all written down now as you requested.
Yesterday morning I went to the lounge to cool off because my apartment was too hot. I was alone.
A male porter came in and said, "You know it's daytime, right?" I responded, "Yes… why?" He told me the lights in the lounge had to be on. I explained that I was there alone, trying to cool off because my AC wasn't working, and that I had turned the lights off temporarily. I said if someone came in and wanted them on, I'd have no problem with that.
He kept insisting that he was going to turn them on regardless because it was "the rules." I said unless I live in a prison, light switches are for residents to use.
Today I went outside to cool off in the shade. Pam, the female porter, commented that I was smoking "too close to the building," even though I was more than 25 feet away.
Pam then told me the male porter from the day before had been trying to clean the lounge and that was why he wanted the lights on. This was never mentioned to me by him at the time. She also said I was wrong to turn off the lights during the day because it was against the rules. There is no rule about that.
I decided to speak to management. Pam began asking me questions about my meeting with management, and I asked her to stop because it was bothering me. She said, "I never bothered you." I replied that she had, both outside when I was smoking and now again. Her response was:
"You're the one that causes all the problems around here. That's what the guys said."
I asked, "What guys, and what exactly was said?" She couldn't give me any names or examples of problems I had caused. This made it clear she was gossiping about me with the male porter and possibly others.
About two hours later, I was waiting for the elevator and overheard Pam's voice saying something about me and my unit number, 806. When I entered the elevator, she and another resident I didn't know went silent.
I reported to the front desk that I had overheard her gossiping about me to another resident. Pam then came up yelling, saying she was "talking about 806 to myself regarding where I still need to clean or not." I asked, "By my unit number?" She admitted yes, then began yelling that I was being disrespectful to her.
Also, if Pam believes I'm an issue for people based off gossip, she's perpetuating the antisemitism based scapegoating, using micro aggressions… and being paid for it.
I'm sad I had to write this, but indeed, I do NEED to do so to keep myself safe following the assault that's motive was ethnic intimidation.
Hi Justin,
Thank you for sending this over. I am so sorry for these inconveniences. I just sent your email to my regional manager and property manager for review. I will update you once I hear back from them.
Ryan Siminske | Leasing Manager
Goldtex | 315 N 12th Street | Philadelphia, PA 19107
Good afternoon, Mr. Horn,
I hope you are well. I am reaching out to address several concerns that have been brought to my attention regarding your interactions with both our on-site team and other residents.
It has been observed that you frequently linger in common areas, including the lobby and management office, and engage staff for extended periods while they are working. While we appreciate your engagement within the community, your presence and interactions have made multiple residents and team members uncomfortable.
Additionally, I was made aware of several recent incidents involving confrontations with members of the cleaning staff — one over the weekend and two earlier today. This type of behavior is not acceptable and will not be tolerated within the community.
I have also received reports that you have been wearing a recording device while in the building. This has caused further discomfort among residents and employees. Please be aware that our team and several residents I have personally spoken with have voiced concerns and do not consent to being recorded.
We ask for your full cooperation in maintaining a professional and respectful environment for everyone at the property. Continued inappropriate, disruptive, or intimidating behavior may result in further action, as outlined in your lease and community policies.
Sara Kane | Regional Manager, Real Estate
Greystar | 161 Washington Street, Suite 810 | Conshohocken, PA 19428
I'm the victim of a hate crime in the building.
Did you know that?
Did you see this email I sent to Ryan today per his request?
Ryan literally told me to stand under a cooling vent in the lobby today during a discussion. And now you're calling it lingering? With my ac out and my unit is over 80° for two weeks?
Yesterday, the front desk woman during the day asked me to watch the door while she went on break. I did for a moment but I didn't feel comfortable. You suggest I'm lingering in that situation too?
Ms Kane,
This scapegoating you so well illustrate…
and that's antisemitism.
Anyone that's educated about antisemitism,
would agree 100%.
You're reaching so far to make up claims about my bothering people that it's clearly biased.
I WAS ASSAULTED BY TWO RESIDENTS…
A HATE CRIME…
BECAUSE IM JEWISH.
I was also blamed for that because the front desk person at that time misled the police and said there was no footage. I later got the footage, and then I had to file a new report because the front desk misled the police so badly.
I DONT NEED ANOTHER LIFE THREATENING INJURY.
I am not recording anything. It was just in case someone randomly attacked me… again.
Your entire email is "garbage" and exudes antisemitism scapegoating 101… blame me for everything…
My complaints about these two people harassing me sent in an email, and THIS is your response?
What about the email with EMER and his posts online about killing people that I sent over to you guys?
Justin forwarded the entire Siminske email chain to Kane — his 3:01 PM complaint and Ryan's 3:11 PM acknowledgment ("I am so sorry for these inconveniences") — proving that her own leasing manager had validated Justin's concerns before she issued her retaliatory warning at 4:35 PM. Kane had the complaint in hand when she chose to blame the complainant instead of addressing the harassment.
Ms. Kane,
This message serves as a formal response to your recent correspondence regarding my interactions with residents and staff. I am writing to clarify the facts, assert my rights under my lease and federal and state fair-housing laws, and request documentation supporting the allegations you conveyed.
First, I want to emphasize that I am the documented victim of an assault in this building that was charged as ethnic intimidation, a hate-motivated crime. The ongoing treatment I have received from certain employees and now in your letter reflects the same pattern of bias, scapegoating, and rumor-based accusation that I have repeatedly reported.
Your letter describes me as "lingering" in common areas and "engaging staff for extended periods." These are not violations of any lease term or rule. I was expressly told by management staff, including Mr. Siminske, that I could cool off in the hallway as my apartment's air conditioning hasn't worked in 10 days.
Your letter also references "confrontations" with cleaning staff. I reported these same incidents as harassment and gossip directed toward me. The fact that my report of being targeted was turned around into an accusation against me illustrates a retaliatory and biased response.
Please be advised that continued misrepresentation of my actions, or treatment that singles me out based on religion or prior victimization, may constitute retaliation and housing discrimination under the Fair Housing Act (42 U.S.C. §3604 et seq.) and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act (43 P.S. §951 et seq.).
Dear Mr. Horn,
Please understand that our prior correspondence was issued in response to multiple documented reports concerning your behavior and interactions within and around the community. Both residents and on-site team members submitted these reports. Management has a duty to maintain a safe, professional, and respectful environment for all residents, employees, and vendors.
Your email references several serious allegations, including discrimination, retaliation, and ethnic intimidation. To be clear, the communication you received, and any actions taken by management are in no way related to or motivated by ethnic intimidation, discrimination, or bias of any kind.
Please note that management does not disclose the identities of residents or employees who submit reports or complaints to protect privacy and prevent potential retaliation.
Staff and residents do not consent to being recorded during interactions, and any meeting must comply with that policy.
Received and documented.
As mentioned in my previous email, we have spoken with the team and expect to move forward professionally and peacefully.
Thank you,
Sara Kane | Regional Manager, Real Estate

Ms. Kane,
After carefully reviewing both your message and the Community Rules and Regulations document currently in effect for Goldtex Apartments (October 2025), it appears that none of the behaviors you referenced in your correspondence violate any published lease term or community rule.
I want to restate a key fact that continues to be ignored: my apartment has been without working air conditioning for nearly two weeks, with indoor temperatures around 80°F. That is a direct violation of management's maintenance obligations under both the lease and the implied warranty of habitability.
It is therefore deeply concerning that management would reframe a situation created by its own lease violation as alleged misconduct on my part. That inversion — turning a resident's justified response to negligence into a disciplinary accusation — is precisely what antisemitic scapegoating looks like in practice.
This is not about overt antisemitic statements — it is about a recognizable behavioral pattern rooted in bias:
• A Jewish resident raises legitimate concerns about mistreatment or safety.
• Instead of addressing the concern, others privately coordinate to depict that person as "difficult," "the problem," or "making people uncomfortable."
• Management, relying on those unverified accounts, formalizes the accusation in writing, while dismissing the underlying complaint.
Your most recent email also appears retaliatory under the Fair Housing Act. Retaliation occurs when a tenant engages in a protected activity — such as reporting discrimination or unsafe conditions — and management responds with an adverse or disciplinary action that would deter a reasonable person from continuing to assert their rights:
• I filed a complaint about staff harassment and gossip on October 6.
• Within hours, I received your formal warning letter accusing me of inappropriate conduct.
• The warning letter did not reference any specific incident, rule, or evidence — only generalized claims derived from the same individuals I reported.
Dear Mr. Horn,
First and foremost, please understand that the correspondence previously issued to you was not intended as a disciplinary action, but rather as a reminder of behavioral expectations in shared community spaces.
To clarify, our communications have no connection whatsoever to your religion, prior victimization under previous management, or any other protected class status.
Your maintenance request for air conditioning service has been escalated and remains a top priority. Our HVAC contractor was onsite yesterday and is currently onsite, working to address the HVAC issues. If you require a night's stay at a hotel until the issue is resolved, please let me know, and I will make the arrangements for you.
Your concerns regarding staff behavior and gossip have been logged and are under review by management and our corporate office.
Please note that management will not engage in retaliatory action in response to your complaints.
Justin requested the hotel accommodation Kane offered, citing nearly two weeks without AC, inability to use his CPAP machine, and heat exhaustion conditions in a unit with only one window that opens 8 inches. Kane confirmed the booking.
